SCRIPT: An Unexpected Trip

"An Unexpected Trip" - the script

Here follows the original written script for the movie. Every script varies in terms of how long it takes to finish. This one was relatively short - I'd say about 2 weeks from start to finish. I've included the finished LEGO stop motion movie at the end.

A peaceful sunny day. Lush green hills backed by a clear blue sky. Suddenly a man (JACKSON) stands up into view. He takes several long gasps of air before falling to his knees coughing.

He becomes aware of someone watching him. Track right to reveal a Stormtrooper pointing a gun
right at his head. Jackson is frozen with fear.

STORMTROOPER BILL

Well what have we got here?

An entire platoon of Stormtroopers surround Jackson. Several vehicles too. A second Stormtrooper
steps forward

STORMTROOPER FRANK

(to Bill)

You think he’s a spy?

JACKSON

(nervously)
I’m not a spy.

STORMTROOPER BILL

(with venom)

Quiet rebel scum.

Jackson resumes his submissive posture on the ground. He doesn’t want any trouble.

STORMTROOPER FRANK

So what do you wanna do with him?

Dramatic zoom in on Bill.

STORMTROOPER BILL

(putting on a voice)

To the Brig!

Jackson gets snatched up and thrown into a transport vehicle. The convoy moves on. Frank is about
to leave when he notices Bill seems slightly put out.

STORMTROOPER FRANK

Everything alright there Bill?

STORMTROOPER BILL

(defeated)

They never scream!

STORMTROOPER FRANK

What?

STORMTROOPER BILL
They never scream!

STORMTROOPER FRANK
Who?

STORMTROOPER BILL
The prisoners, the rebels.

STORMTROOPER FRANK
Why would they scream?

STORMTROOPER BILL
Because I’ve just said…

Again the camera will dramatically zoom in.

STORMTROOPER BILL

(putting on a voice)

To the brig!

STORMTROOPER FRANK

Ok.

STORMTROOPER BILL

(getting agitated)
They’re gonna be thrown in prison. Possibly for ever.
You think they’d be a little more scared.

A moment of silence.

STORMTROOPER FRANK

Isn’t a brig on a ship though?

STORMTROOPER BILL

What’s your point?

STORMTROOPER FRANK

Well then maybe that’s why they don’t scream.

They’re confused.

STORMTROOPER BILL
Confused?

STORMTROOPER FRANK
Yeah you say brig. They’re looking around thinking -
where’s the ship? Am I going to space? Did I
remember to feed my Bantha?

STORMTROOPER BILL
What do you suggest then?

STORMTROOPER FRANK
How bout prison instead of brig?

STORMTROOPER BILL
(considers it a moment)
Too obvious.

STORMTROOPER FRANK
Dungeon?

STORMTROOPER BILL
Too fairytale.

STORMTROOPER FRANK
Crypt?

STORMTROOPER BILL
(satisfied)
That’s got a nice ring to it.

Again the camera will dramatically zoom in.

STORMTROOPER BILL

(putting on a voice)

To the crypt!

CUT TO:

The crypt. A faint solitary drip, drop can be heard. Jackson is bound in restraints. (We could
possibly mirror the opening shot)

DEAD ADAM (O.S)

Tough break.

Jackson is shocked by the sudden appearance of a voice. He was sure he was in here alone.
He scans the room for the source of the voice and lands on - DEAD ADAM - a shackled
skeleton sitting to his right.

DEAD ADAM

I know what you’re thinking…

Jackson’s face is still utterly stunned.

DEAD ADAM

Whose this nobody?

Dead Adam chuckles at his own joke. No reaction from Jackson.

DEAD ADAM

Nobody?

(slowly pronouncing)

No. Body. 

(beat)
I’m a skeleton. Nothing? That one normally kills.

A rattling of keys at the door. 

DEAD ADAM

(panicked)

Someone’s coming.

The door bursts open. Red light floods the room and in marches 4  DEATH TROOPERS
followed by an IMPERIAL OFFICER.

IMPERIAL OFFICER

(malicious)

Are you ready?

JACKSON

(suddenly confident)

Are you?

Before anyone can answer Jackson breaks snaps off his bonds and expertly knocks out all
5 of his captors. He stands over their unconscious bodies in triumph.

CUT TO:

Jackson is still in restraints, still surrounded by the Death Troopers. Nothing has actually
happened. He imagined it.

DEAD ADAM

Was something supposed to happen?

Jackson doesn’t have an answer.

IMPERIAL OFFICER

Allow me.

He gives a nod and 2 Death Troopers bring in a crate, setting it down right in front of Jackson.

IMPERIAL OFFICER

Now we will find out what you know?

The lid is lifted off the crate and a green blob starts to slide out, growing in size and ebbing
closer and closer to Jackson, who is now screaming in fear-

CUT TO:

Jackson is panicking in his seat on an airplane. He starts to calm down when he realises
he’s now safe. We slowly track back along the other passengers, the music is building
to a crescendo, coming to rest on a Stormtrooper helmet.
